Help ‘The Pituitary Foundation’ to save lives! • Introbiz Members News – Cardiff Business News

The Pituitary Foundation are doing a petition which everyone can sign. It is about changing the name ‘diabetes insipidus’ to pituitary insipidus – desmopressin dependent’ (PIDD).

The term ‘diabetes insipidus’ is very often mistaken for diabetes mellitus by health care professionals (HCPs) and the general public. The two conditions unfortunately share ‘diabetes’ within them, although they are completely unrelated and mean very different things.

The challenge for diabetes insipidus patients is when they need hospital attention (A&E, surgery, or on a hospital ward). Many HCPs are unaware of DI and assume the patient has diabetes mellitus. The consequences include their blood sugars being checked, being given ‘diabetic diets’ etc. instead of being given the treatment they need…

Business Council welcomes giants of Welsh housing and care sector to membership

Business Council Welcomes Giants Of Welsh Housing And Care Sector To Membership
By Rhys Gregory On Oct 10, 2019 0 Comments

Care Forum Wales
GIANTS of the housing and care sectors have joined a regional Business Council.
Care Forum Wales and social landlord ClwydAlyn are new members of North Wales Mersey Dee Business Council.
The cross-border organisation, whose members include the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), North Wales Tourism, West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce and Wrexham Business Professionals, works with the public sector on regional economic development.
As an active member of North Wales Economic Ambition Board (NWEAB), the Business Council has worked hand in hand with local authorities on the £1bn North Wales Growth Deal, which the NWEAB is developing and delivering in partnership with the UK and Welsh Governments.
Chair Ashley Rogers said having two of the region’s most respected groups on board will add value, given their presence in local communities and positive influence on the region’s economy.
“It is a privilege to welcome ClwydAlyn and Care Forum Wales to our regional Business Council,” said Mr Rogers.
“These sectors provide essential support to our local communities and have a substantial positive impact on employment and our regional economy.”
He added: “Health and social care businesses and housing associations are vital to a prosperous, sustainable economy and the wellbeing of our communities.
“We look forward to working with them for the benefit of our region across all sectors.”
ClwydAlyn, based in St Asaph, will be representing all six housing associations in North Wales.
Their combined new-build housing programme is worth £100m, and the group believes joining the Business Council will give them an opportunity to collaborate with more private and public sector partners in the region.
“ClwydAlyn is delighted to become a member of the of North Wales Mersey Dee Business Council and to be able to represent the views of the six housing associations in North Wales,” said Group Chief Executive, Clare Budden.
“As social businesses with a combined annual turnover of £65m and employing more than 1,800 people across the region, we are committed to maximising the Welsh pound and welcome the opportunity the network provides to build our relationships with local suppliers and service providers.”
Wrexham-based Care Forum Wales supports more than 450 care providers across Wales. The industry contributes £2bn to the Welsh economy every year, employing 83,400 people.
Chief Executive Mary Wimbury said they are delighted to become members of the Business Council and work alongside pioneering leaders and industry heavyweights across a wide range of arenas.
She added: “With Welsh Government’s economic strategy identifying care as a key component of the foundational economy it’s important for us to build our links with other key sectors of the economy.”

Welsh Food and Drink to Take Centre Stage at World’s Largest Food Fair

Welsh food and drink producers have travelled to Cologne in Germany this week to attend one of the world’s largest trade fairs for food and drink despite the uncertainty and challenge of Brexit.

Supported by the Welsh Government, eight Welsh companies will be attending Anuga 2019 under the Cymru/Wales banner, all looking to reach new export markets.

Commenting ahead of the trade exhibition, the Welsh Government’s Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths believes that it is important for Welsh food and drink to be seen on a worldwide platform, she said:

“We have set out our plans to develop the global reputation of Wales as a Food Nation. We are proud, therefore, to be supporting a strong Welsh delegation at this important global trade event, reaffirming our commitment to raising our international profile and supporting our businesses to sell their quality food and drink to the world.”
Companies exhibiting at Anuga include Ty Nant Spring Water, 9Brand Foods, Calbee Group UK Ltd, Plas Farm Ltd and Mornflake, with representation also from Evan-Evans Group Ltd, Sabor de Amor and Gut Instinct. Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) will also have a prominent presence at the event and will be looking to continue the growth of the profile of PGI Welsh Lamb and PGI Welsh Beef in Germany and nearby countries.

As the Welsh rugby team prepare for their next game in the Rugby World Cup one well known Welsh brewer is already savouring success in Japan. Wrexham Lager has been inundated with orders and it’s having to brew additional stock to keep up with demand.

The Japanese orders came about as a result of the Welsh Government-led BlasCymru/TasteWales event held earlier this year in Newport that saw food distributors and wholesalers from all over the world come to Wales to meet with leading Welsh food and drink producers.

Cracking news for Welsh food company

Mid Wales cracker company, Cradoc’s Savoury Biscuits, is celebrating after attaining the all-important SALSA accreditation, with the support of the Welsh Government’s Food and Drink Wales.

Cradoc’s received help from the Welsh Government and EU-funded Project HELIX, a pan-Wales strategic initiative delivered by Food Innovation Wales, which is a partnership of three food centres based in North, Mid/West and South Wales. The SALSA accreditation demonstrates that approved suppliers are operating to standards that are recognised and accepted across the industry, and exceed the minimum standards expected by enforcement authorities.

Based in Brecon, Cradoc’s Savoury Biscuits began in 2008 with a strong focus on baking of the highest quality. But after recently winning the Welsh Food and Drink Innovation Den prize of £10,000 worth of media support and a listing with CH&CO Group, a food wholesaler, there was a requirement to obtain the SALSA accreditation.

Allie Thomas owner of Cradoc’s said, “Growth in our business has led us to acquire new premises this year and the accreditation was a vital part of our relocation. Our business adviser made us aware that there was mentoring support available from the Welsh Government through Project HELIX to help us achieve the accreditation and that was the start of the journey.

“We were given a Food Innovation Wales mentor to help us identify the gaps in our current HACCP (hazard analysis and critical control points) and put a plan together to develop a workable system and build our growing business around SALSA.

“Our mentor Jackie Evans also became part of our team. As a Food Technologist she has all the knowledge and ability to work with companies beginning their journey or upgrading it. Thanks to her support we were able to create a secure and reliable system.”

INEOS Automotive confirms £600m investment in new Bridgend car factory
The Welsh Government, through Project HELIX and Food Innovation Wales’s ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University, supported the cost of the mentor, from start to finish, over a period of nine months.

Allie Thomas added,

“It is excellent news for us on receiving the accreditation as we will now satisfy major food suppliers like Castell Howell, CH&CO, BaxterStorey and Elior, who serve some of the largest food consumers in the UK.

“We very much look forward to the difference this will make to our distribution.”

Commenting on Cradoc’s success, Minister for Environment, Energy and Rural Affairs, Lesley Griffiths, said:

“Cradoc’s Savoury Biscuits is an excellent SME business, with genuine drive and ambition. They have proven themselves in the food sector and will continue to build on this achievement.

“The potential to build momentum in the food sector with the right support is clear. They will be able to work with their target food wholesalers and aim to grow as a result of all this hard work.

“Cradoc’s is a wonderful example of our ambition to further develop the Welsh food and drink industry through working collaboratively within the sector in order to grow businesses’ scale, value and productivity, through targeted investment, support, innovation and co-operative activity.”
