Welsh celebrities Rob Brydon, Ruth Jones, Sophie Evans and Caroline Sheen will help host a virtual quiz night for children’s hospice, Tŷ Hafan.

The event is being held at 7pm Friday 10 on the Welsh charity’s Facebook page and is the second virtual quiz fundraiser they have organised.

Players are asked to donate what they can, with the first quiz raising almost £3,000.

Due to the coronavirus lockdown, Tŷ Hafan had to cancel all their planned events and close their charity shops, meaning a potential income loss of more than £2 million this year.

The charity supports life-limited children and their families across Wales.

The quiz will feature pre-recorded questions read by eight famous faces.

It will be themed around music, movies and television with a special Gavin and Stacey themed round hosted by Rob Brydon and Ruth Jones.

Other celebrity quizmasters taking part include Westend actresses Kerry Ellis, Aisha Jawando and Sophie Evans. Musical theatre actress, Caroline Sheen, will also be joining the lineup.

Britain’s Got Talent 2019 winner, Colin Thackery and Karen Gibson from The Kingdom Choir, who led the royal wedding performance of ‘Stand by Me’ for Harry and Meghan, are also among the quizzers.

The first online fundraising quiz saw 3,800 people play.

This quiz series is one of the virtual fundraising ideas the charity is exploring to help keep the doors of their hospice open. They are also planning a virtual marathon in May.

We know that the Coronavirus outbreak is a time of concern for our families, supporters, volunteers & staff. Be assured that Tŷ Hafan is working tirelessly to respond to the needs of all involved with the charity. 💚

Many charities are having to find alternative ways to fund their work during the global pandemic as shops have been shut and social gatherings stopped.

UK Government announced on Wednesday an extra £750 million in funding for frontline charities with £200 million of that specifically for hospices in England. Wales will get a portion of this funding.

Sŵn – Cardiff’s multi-venue music festival – VisitWales

Sŵn – Cardiff’s multi-venue music festival
Sŵn Festival is Cardiff’s behemoth multi-venue music festival, supporting rising stars and bringing special guests to the Welsh capital.
Now into its teens, Sŵn Festival has undergone some changes over the years, but remains at the heart of the city’s music offering during the Autumn. And if your idea of a good time is nipping in between multiple cosy venues across the city, grabbing the odd pint here and there and watching some of the best local and national rising stars, then this is the festival for you.

Sŵn Festival 2019 takes place between 18 – 20 October, with a number of additional events around its periphery. Headliners include: Gruff Rhys; We Were Promised Jetpacks; Twin Peaks, Holy Fuck; The Comet Is Coming; plus many more.

But for me, Sŵn has always been about the smaller events that take place around those. It’s about wandering up and down Womanby Street (the symbolic home for most of the action), bumping into people you haven’t seen for ages, striking up conversations with friendly strangers, and starting mosh pits in the street because the venue you want to get into is full, the band are in full flow and the queue is already up the street and round the corner.
