My First Online Business Networking Event with Introbiz…

Online Zoom Networking

Yesterday I took part in my first Online / Virtual Webinar based Networking Event, where Introbiz Business Network, innovated and adapted to switch their cancelled real world business networking event online, after their networking event in Cardiff, was one of the many event victims pulled, due to Coronavirus.

30 members of the Introbiz Business Network attended this first online / virtual networking event and the majority seemed happy and positive with the event and the way it was conducted.

The usual power networking format of everyone getting a few minutes to talk about their business was still followed online and the web system of choice for the virtual / online business networking event was the Zoom platform.

Other than a few technical issues here and there the event went well and was really useful for those in attendance to continue to network and build relationships even under the current self isolation restrictions.

Lessons will be learnt and the online / virtual events will get slicker, but all in all the event went really well.

As well as local South Wales members, the online networking event was also joined by wider network contacts and Entrepreneurs from further afield such as England, Ireland & Sweden and I’m sure the spread of networkers will continue to grow as this online networking event format gets repeated several times whilst Coronavirus Measures continue to strike the usual networking event format.

In addition to joining the Introbiz network for attending real world events, new virtual networking members from around the world can now join the Introbiz network and attend the online / virtual networking events for just £99 a year.

See https://www.introbiz.co.uk for more pictures from the event and details how to get involved.

2020 Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K postponed due to Coronavirus…

The 2020 Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K has been postponed

The health and wellbeing of the community is paramount, therefore CCBC have been closely monitoring the situation surrounding the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) outbreak, aligning our response to the Public Health Wales guidelines, whilst making preparations for any upcoming events.

In line with recent decisions from high profile sporting events such as the London Marathon, we have decided that it is in the best interest of runners, spectators, volunteers and event staff to postpone the Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K/2K that was scheduled to take place on 17th May 2020.

The Bryn Meadows Caerphilly 10K/2K will now take place on Sunday 13th September 2020. We know that many of you will have been training hard for a long time, but your health, and that of our spectators, volunteers, event staff and the wider population is our main priority at this time. We understand and share your disappointment with this outcome, but given the circumstances we believe that the postponement will allow the event to reach its full potential in September.

All entries will be transferred automatically to the new date. There is no need to get in touch to amend any details. There is nothing for you to do if you have already registered.

Additional information relating to when race packs can be expected, road closure information and other operational details will be shared at a time closer to the event.

For further information or to register a place visit: https://your.caerphilly.gov.uk/10k/

Wales Millennium Centre Closed until further notice – Welsh Business News…

Dear Supporter,

It is with great regret that we have closed Wales Millennium Centre until further notice, following the UK Government advice given on Monday 16 March.

We hope you will agree that it is the right decision to put the safety of our staff, artists, volunteers and audiences first. This is a sad and uncertain time for all of us.

The implications of this situation will be hard to manage and long-lasting. Our role is to be a home for the performing arts for our nation and we will be doing everything we can to support our staff and volunteers, artists and freelancers through this difficult situation. We are currently working on a way to support the talented and hardworking individuals who provide us with the joy that the performing arts bring. We want to be ready to bring back the uplifting performances and life-enhancing learning opportunities so many people value, as soon as is possible.

However, we are a charity. While we are grateful for the government funding we receive, more than 85% of our revenues come from ticket sales. So times ahead will be tough. We use all our profits to provide jobs for artists, opportunities for young people to learn about and work in the performing arts, and for communities to access, participate in, and celebrate the arts. If you wish to support the work we do, your help would be enormously appreciated.  You can donate here.

We are currently contacting all ticket holders with details of shows that have been postponed or cancelled to make refunds as required. Please bear with us whilst we work through this process.

The best sources of up-to-date information will now be our website and social media channels, which will be updated as and when further information emerges.

We wish the best to everyone in our community. Please stay safe and we will look forward to welcoming you back to Wales Millennium Centre in the near future.

Yours sincerely,

Mat Milsom

Managing Director,
Wales Millennium Centre

Six Nations News – Wales v Scotland off due to Coronavirus

Wales’ Six Nations match at home to Scotland on Saturday has been postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The two other scheduled games in round five had already been postponed and no dates have been confirmed for completing the 2020 Championship.

The Welsh Rugby Union, which had insisted earlier on Friday the game would go ahead, said it was “in the best interests of supporters, players and staff to fall in line with recent measures taken across the UK and global sports industries”.

Several sports have been severely disrupted, with all Premier League and EFL football matches suspended until 3 April.

A WRU statement read: “The Welsh Rugby Union has maintained an open dialogue with, and continued to seek advice and direction from, the Welsh government and other stakeholders, including the Six Nations, on this fast-moving issue.

“Every effort has been made to stage this game and we appreciate that individuals will have been inconvenienced. Given the fluid and unprecedented nature of this issue a postponement became the only viable option.”

It added that there would be an announcement on rescheduling the fixture “in the coming days”.

Friday’s Under-20 Six Nations match between Wales and Scotland in Colwyn Bay will go ahead but will be played behind closed doors.

Meanwhile, Scottish Rugby has suspended all rugby in Scotland for the remainder of March.

A Scottish Rugby spokesperson said: “We have taken on board all expert medical advice before now and we are taking a precautionary approach to give time to assess what the impact of coronavirus will be on Scottish society in the coming weeks before deciding on next steps.

“This decision has been taken with the best interest of everyone involved in the game and in support of the country’s work to address the impact of Coronavirus.”

News of the Wales-Scotland postponement comes on a day of widespread sporting postponements worldwide.

New Startup Festival in Wales…

A new festival to bring together the Welsh start-up community has been launched as part of the annual Wales Start-Up Awards which will again celebrate the contribution that new entrepreneurial firms make to job creation, creativity and innovation across the Welsh economy.

The brainchild of Professor Dylan Jones-Evans OBE, assistant pro-vice chancellor at the University of South Wales and founder of the Fast Growth 50, the Wales Start-Up Awards are unique in being the only business awards in the UK that focus specifically on recognising the achievements of those new businesses launched within the last three years.

Wales Startup Awards 2019 at the Depot, Cardiff. Credit: Matthew Horwood

The 2020 awards will be held at the site of the new Depot in Cardiff on the evening of June 19th with the overall sponsor again being Capital Law, a leading provider of commercial legal services to private and public sector clients throughout the UK, Europe and beyond.

Chris Nott, Senior Partner at Capital Law said:

Since our involvement with these awards, we’ve witnessed the drive, optimism and creativity of Welsh entrepreneurs. It’s inspiring to see start-ups from previous award years not only flourish, but also surpass the aspirations they originally set for themselves. As a home-grown business ourselves, we’re passionate about encouraging growth in the Welsh economy through the development of a supportive entrepreneurship ecosystem. These awards are at the heart of it: they act as a valuable springboard for Welsh start-ups, by giving them an opportunity to be recognised and connected. For all these reasons, we’re proud to be the Wales Start-up Awards headline sponsor again this year, and cannot wait to meet and see the talent of this year’s entrants.”

To make this year’s event bigger and better than ever, the number of awards is being expanded and the Wales Start-Up Festival will be held on the same day so as to bring Welsh startups together to help celebrate the best of new businesses in Wales.

As Professor Jones-Evans explains:

“Since they were established back in 2016, some incredible new businesses have been recognised at the annual Wales Start-Up awards. With the tech sector growing rapidly across the nation, we have created a number of new awards that reflect some of the sectors that could make a real difference to the economy over the next few years such as cyber, fintech, medtech and mobile technologies”.

He also believes that the event should be about more than being just another awards ceremony and that the reboot of the awards offers an opportunity to add real value to the those applying.

“The creation of the Wales Start-Up festival as a free event to complement the awards will be an opportunity for attendees to hear inspirational talks by successful entrepreneurs, attend advice clinics and workshops and to showcase the best of Welsh entrepreneurship”..

“For the first time, we are also encouraging all of our sponsors to directly support those entering the awards. For example, NatWest Bank will offer a fast-track route to their digital accelerator to all finalists whilst the Celtic Manor Resort, sponsor of the food and drink start-up of the year award, will be giving all shortlisted firms in their category the opportunity to showcase their products at their four hotels in Newport. It is incredible opportunity for startups to get access to the expertise experience and marketing power of our amazing sponsors.”

Six Nations News – England v Wales…

England host 2019 champions Wales in the Six Nations at Twickenham on Saturday, needing to win to keep alive hopes of a third title in five years.

England make two changes with Mark Wilson coming in for injured flanker Sam Underhill and Anthony Watson replacing Jonathan Joseph on the wing.

Wales face England under head coach Wayne Pivac for the first time having lost successive Six Nations matches.

They make four changes from the home defeat by France two weeks ago.

Scarlets-bound back Liam Williams makes a first appearance since the World Cup after recovering from an ankle problem.

Cardiff flanker Josh Navidi, who has been injured since January, is preferred to Taulupe Faletau at number eight, and Rob Evans replaces fellow Scarlets prop Wyn Jones in the front row.

Cardiff scrum-half Tomos Williams makes a first appearance against England, with Gareth Davies dropping out of the squad altogether, while Bath nine Rhys Webb, Saracens prop Rhys Carre and Scarlets flanker Aaron Shingler all come onto the bench.

Commentator’s notes

BBC Sport’s Eddie Butler: The double blip of defeats against South Africa and France has turned into a back-to-back recovery against Scotland and Ireland.

England are back on track with a vengeful determination and have home advantage against Wales to boot. Or to pass, or to drive. Any which way they like. They look formidable.

Wales have lost their last two games and are fully aware that England are never the easiest to face when your timing is a little off and your title has already slipped away. But there’s nothing like the prospect of humiliation to concentrate the mind. Wales are close to being excellent.

Having predicted high-scoring adventures in all rounds, this time both teams are going to deliver. England 39-38 Wales.

View from both camps

England head coach Eddie Jones: “You’ve got to remember they beat us last year so we owe them one.

“They’ve lost two games in a row. They’ve got a new coach and they’ll want to make a statement on Saturday.

“Traditionally our games are very close so they’ll come with a lot of enthusiasm and a lot of energy.”

Video captionWales are on the right track – Pivac

Wales head coach Wayne Pivac: “We’ve had a good two weeks and we are really excited about heading up to Twickenham for what will be a huge Six Nations clash.

“We have had the chance to put the disappointments of the loss to France behind us, and we know we need to be more clinical in attack and convert the opportunities that we are creating.

“Liam’s return to full fitness is a positive after the loss of Josh Adams, as is the return of Josh Navidi.”

Match facts

  • England can win four straight home matches against Wales for the second time in the Six Nations era.
  • England’s last four Six Nations wins in this fixture have all been decided by a margin of six points or fewer. Six of Wales’ seven Six Nations victories have been by a converted try or more.
  • Wales scored just six points on their last Six Nations visit to Twickenham in 2018 – their lowest return in this fixture since 2000.
  • England have won all four meetings in round four of the Six Nations by an aggregate score of 135-70.

  • Victory for England would secure a fifth Triple Crown of the Six Nations era (level with Ireland).
  • England have only lost seven home games in Six Nations history. Two of those defeats came against Wales, in 2008 and 2012.
  • They have been beaten only twice in their last 24 games at Twickenham.
  • It takes opponents 4.49 seconds to clear an English ruck, a full second longer than any other nation.
  • They have won just five of their last 11 Six Nations matches (D1, L5).

  • Wales could lose three straight Six Nations games for the first time since a run of five losses ended in 2007.
  • They have lost four of their last five Tests.
  • Wales have not beaten England in the Six Nations with Dan Biggar starting since 2013 (L3).
  • Biggar’s goal-kicking success rate of 86.7% is the best of any Wales player in the Six Nations era (at least 20 kicks).
  • Wales have conceded 22 penalties – the fewest of any team. They are the only nation yet to concede a penalty for offside in this Six Nations.

Entire Six Nations could be called off as UK Government considers banning sporting events as tournament bosses meet to make decision – Wales Online

The UK Government is considering following in France’s footsteps with a ban on public events in a bid to stop the coronavirus spreading further, which could spell the end of this year’s Six Nations for now.

Ireland v Italy – which had been due to take place this weekend in Dublin – has already been cancelled.

Another match hangs in the balance after the French government imposed a ban on public gatherings of more than 5,000 people in confined spaces on Saturday, throwing the French team’s Super Saturday Six Nations clash against Ireland in Paris under further doubt.

UK health secretary Matt Hancock admitted on Sunday that it was an option, telling the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show: “We are looking at all those sorts of things – we do not rule them out.”

How Wales Could Still Win The Six Nations – as per Wales Online…

According to a recent Article on Wales Online – Here how Wales could still Win the Six Nations title in 2020, although it’s a bit unlikely…

Wales v England

The first thing Wales need to do is win their remaining games, preferably with maximum points, starting with England at Twickenham.

Yes, it’s a tough ask, but this is England v Wales. Anything could happen, Pivac’s attacking game-plan might click and Wales run in four tries for a bonus point in a thrilling clash with England not getting anything.

They would, of course, need other results to then go their way too.

Scotland v France

That means Scotland to triumph over France at Murrayfield. Yes, some might view that as a little unlikely we accept, but if Gregor Townsend’s men click anything can happen.

Italy v Ireland

The other result Wales need would be more seismic, Italy beating Ireland.

On the surface that may look nigh on impossible, but Italy troubled France in Paris, are desperate to end their losing streak in the Six Nations and won’t travel without hope.

Also, this is an Ireland team who have been heavily criticised by former players, the media and the public on the Emerald Isle with calls for wholesale changes, in Dublin. Conor Murray and skipper Johnny Sexton, key figures for so many years, are under fire.

The pressure is on.

Sport is a funny game. If Ireland get a player sent off early on, or a couple in the bin, who knows?

Buster Douglas, Wimbledon FA Cup final v Liverpool, Leicester winning the Premier League… sporting shocks do happen.

Such a sequence of results would mean France remaining on 13 points, and England and Ireland on nine.

The big movers would be Wales with a maximum points haul in a smash and grab raid on their neighbours taking them to 11, just two points behind the French.

Scotland could be on the same number, or a point behind, if they beat France without securing a bonus.

That would leave a situation of their top five being covered by just four points, each retaining hopes of the title, and setting up a truly Super Saturday.

What needs to happen in Round Five

Wales v Scotland

Again, Wales have to take care of their own business. They are first up, at home to Scotland, and can pile the pressure on the other teams with a bonus point victory which would take them to 16 points.

Wales have the wood over the Scots in Cardiff, so a bonus point haul from this one is certainly not unfeasible.

Italy v England

England could only get 14 points if, as expected, they run up four tries and beat Italy.

That match is due to take place in Rome but emergency measures taken by the Italian government to combat the outbreak of the coronavirus in the country have already caused sports events to to postponed or cancelled and could put it in doubt.

There is also a question-mark over Ireland’s previous round fixture with the Azzurri, with the Irish government monitoring the situation. It hasn’t ruled out postponing the fixture.

France v Ireland

An Irish triumph, with a bonus point, could only take them to a maximum of 14 points.

France could still finish on 16 points if that match finished in a draw and they scored four tries to pick up a bonus point.

But if they lose, the title would be Wales’.

Wales could even still win the title if they fail to pick up a bonus point in one of the games against England or Scotland and finish the Championship with 15 points.

That would be enough for them to finish above England and Ireland with only France able to match or better it through one or two draws, or losing bonus points.

Wales could even still win the title if they fail to pick up a bonus point in one of the games against England or Scotland and finish the Championship with 15 points.

Six Nations 2020: Wales ratings as North’s concussion hell strikes again but Biggar shows heart of a dragon vs France

Six Nations 2020: Wales ratings as North’s concussion hell strikes again but Biggar shows heart of a dragon vs France

WALES came up just short as France recorded their first win at the Principality Stadium for a decade in a Six Nations thriller.

There were massive performances for some of Les Bleus’ young stars but how did the home side get on?George North went off with another concerning concussion scare, while Dan Biggar kept a cool head for the home sideHere is how SunSport’s Alex Terrell rated the Welsh in Cardiff.

BACKS – Leigh Halfpenny 7Has been almost faultless under the high ball and again did so little wrong under the closed roof.Perhaps the only difference between Halfpenny and absent Liam Williams is the extra finesse the latter gives the side at full-back.George North 5The winger is a legend in these parts, but he went off with another concussion.North has to start asking the question — is his future life and looking after his unborn child worth taking all these hits to the head?

Fingers crossed we see North back and he is OK, because that is the biggest concern for him right now.Nick Tompkins 8Close to being a top drawer test match player, but still little bits to work on, like passing the ball to an opposing player. His pass was the one that Ntamack ran on to and scored, the move that turned out to be the game changer. Was unlucky to get turned over by Camille Chat at the end.Hadleigh Parkes 6When he doesn’t kick, he’s fine, but maybe the centre should avoid getting boot to ball for a while.Josh Adams 6Unlucky to be kept quiet, or did he just not do enough?Looked in the groove and his battle with Teddy Thomas was a fascinating one.Dan Biggar 8Has the heart of a dragon, does the fly half.A dogged performance, chasing down his own kicks and trying to turn the momentum of the game.Gareth Davies 6Probably hasn’t done enough to wrestle the No9 jersey off Tomos Williams for the next game.

FORWARDS – Wyn Jones 6Solid in the scrum after last week’s uncertainty against Ireland.Ken Owens 6Hart to criticise the hooker, when the home side won 12 out of 13 line-outs and nine out of 10 scrums.Dillon Lewis 7Superb try from the prop, who is blossoming into a real talent in a red jersey.Just needs to keep his head in defence though, his penalty count was the highest among the Welsh players and that was costly.Jake Ball 7Just works so hard and doesn’t give an inch.Underrated outside Wales, but not west of the Severn.Alun Wyn Jones 6Not reached the giddy heights of last year and he could not convince the referee that it was a penalty try when Willemse appeared to palm the ball during a backs-to-the-wall passage.Ross Moriarty 7Was shifted around from blindside flanker to No8, but 13 tackles was the joint-highest among the Wales players.[article-rail-section title=”SIX NATIONS NEWS” posts_category=”350″ posts_number=”10″ query_type=”popular” /]Justin Tipuric 7Has been Wales’ best player this Six Nations and possibly the best openside in the competition, alongside Charles Ollivon.Taulupe Faletau 6Not back to his best since returning, but he is close and bubbling under the surface.Taken off after the hour and replaced by Aaron Wainrwight, with Moriarty shifting to No8, who brought more explosive running into the Wales back-line.

Wales under pressure to get back on track against inexperienced France

Wales under pressure to get back on track against inexperienced France | Wales rugby union team

There was an echo of the Warren Gatland era this week when the prop Wyn Jones accused France of cheating in the scrum. It was a calculated attempt to provoke the Six Nations leaders, whose indignant response went over the top, but it also showed the pressure the champions are under.

Defeat would surrender their interest in the title and end the longest unbeaten home record in the competition. It is three years since Wales lost in Cardiff and 10 since France last won there, but there is a sense that after a decade in which Wales, Ireland and England dominated the Six Nations, the balance of power may be shifting.
