2020 Marks the Year of Introbiz’ First Global Online Summit

2020 marks the year of Introbiz’ first Global Online Summit, taking place from 25th – 27th November.

As one of Wales and the UK’s most ambitious, recognised business networks, established for nearly 12 years, the COVID epidemic has fuelled their mission to take the world by storm, even further this year.

Introbiz brings over 7000 visitors to their annual exhibitions & events with global leading entrepreneurs, such as Grant Cardone & Lord Sugar, and has connected with Sir Richard Branson & other leading global entrepreneurs at Necker Island events.

Having built up 12 years-worth of experience in providing industry leading events, COVID put a stop to the full year’s schedule of real-world networking events and businesses expo’s already booked in when the country went in to lockdown.

Introbiz MD’s Paul Smolinski & Tracey Smolinski were faced with a difficult decision: To shut up shop and wait for the pandemic to be over, or to innovate, pivot and look to rise – and even thrive – from the enforced situation. Being the optimistic fighters that they are, they chose the latter and switched their business to an online model as soon as the UK lockdown began.

Introbiz switched the membership and events model from real world events to online events and online membership, and continued with their weekly events, using Zoom as their new venue of choice. Since March 16th, they have hosted over 50 online events with over 40 global speakers and sports stars, pulling in thousands of visitors. On top of providing networking opportunities, they decided to leverage their previous relationships, with best-selling authors like Brian Tracey, Les Brown, Sharon Lechter, Dr John Demartini, Jairek Robbins & Tom Ziglar, to not only speak at their events, but to provide leading world-class training and knowledge, as well as live Q&A sessions to get real-time answers and expertise.

This successful pivot has inspired Paul & Tracey to create a Global Online Summit, creating a global opportunity that is appropriately named “Rise To Thrive.”

The “Rise To Thrive” Introbiz Global Summit is set to be one of the biggest online business events of 2020; offering current clients and the wider business community a virtual networking breakfast experience, and the opportunity to meet and greet global entrepreneurs and like-minded business owners like never before. The Summit will feature over 35 of the world’s most renowned names such as Les Brown, Sharon Lechter, John Demartini, Brian Tracy, Jariek Robbins, Tom Ziglar along with new additions such as; Rob Moore, Alec Stern, Camilita Nutall, Forbes Riley, Bob Burg and Evan Carmichael, to name just a small handful over the three days.

Introbiz anticipates welcoming people from all walks of life to join the Summit, including existing clients from professional services, hospitality, real estate, motor trade, leisure & tourism, and third sector to connect and to learn about the universal laws of health, wealth, success, relationships and connections.

Throughout COVID, Introbiz’ main aim has been to keep the economic wheel turning and to ensure that Welsh businesses remain inspired to connect, collaborate, network and grow. They hope that this one-off event will be a demonstration of finding the gift in adversity. Having reached over 25 countries so far, Introbiz aims to bridge the borders of our world through entrepreneurial spirit and progressive action.

Founder and MD of the Global Summit, Paul Smolinski says;

“We are proud to bring over 30 world-class global entrepreneurs and speakers to the Welsh, UK and global stage during these tough times, and are confident that business owners will be inspired and educated in many strategies to help them to pivot and grow out of these uncertain times”.
Introbiz invites you to join us at our first Online Summit to get inspired, and get connected.

Economic Resilience Fund – Find out if your business is eligible for support from the third phase
Businesses across Wales can now find out if they can apply for funding from the third phase of the Economic Resilience Fund (ERF) by visiting the online Eligibility Checker.

Economy Minister Ken Skates announced the new phase of the fund last week which will see an additional £140m being made available to businesses. The eligibility checker will enable businesses to see if they can access the £80m tranche of the fund which will support firms with projects that can help the transition to the economy of tomorrow and will be open to micro businesses, SMEs and large businesses.

Of this, £20m will be ring fenced to support tourism and hospitality businesses  who are facing particular challenges as we enter the winter months.

Micro businesses (employing between 1 and 9 people) will be able to apply for up to £10,000 on the condition they match this with their own investment of at least 10%; For Tourism and Hospitality micro businesses there will be discretion for grant awards of up to 100%;
SMEs (employing between 10 and 249 people) will be able to apply for up to £150,000. Small businesses (up to 50 employees) will be required to match this with their own investment of at least 10% and medium businesses (between 50 and 249 employees) with at least 20% of their own funding; For Tourism and Hospitality SME’s there will be discretion for grant awards of up to 100%;
Large businesses (employing 250+ people) will be able to apply for up to £200,000 on the condition they match this with their own investment of at least 50%.
The Welsh Government is currently working with local authorities and the Welsh Local Government Association on the detail of the Local Lockdown Business Fund that will support businesses impacted by local restrictions. Further details and information on how to access this fund will be published shortly on the Business Wales website. The Local Lockdown Business Fund, worth up to £60m, will provide grants based on the Non-Domestic Rates (NDR) system to businesses who meet eligibility requirements and have been materially impacted by local lockdown.

Eligible Retail, leisure and hospitality businesses in Wales occupying properties with a rateable value of between £12,001 and £51,000 could access a grant worth £1,500.

A £1,000 grant will be available to eligible businesses that have a rateable value of £12,000 or less.

Economy Minister Ken Skates said: “Welsh Government support has been crucial for businesses throughout Wales in dealing with the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Key to this has been our unique Economic Resilience Fund which has already helped protect more than 100,000 jobs.

“Today we are opening the eligibility checker for the next £80m of the fund so businesses can find out if they are likely to benefit. We have deliberately ring-fenced £20m of this money for Tourism and hospitality businesses because we recognise the particular pressures they are under at this challenging time.

“The application process will open during the week of 26th October. We will also be providing further information on how businesses impacted by local lockdowns can access a share of the £60m we have committed for this purpose very soon.”

Bulletin Contents – Self-Employment Support Scheme and furlough next steps; Economic Resilience Fund; COVID-19 Consumer Sentiment Tracker; Business Interruption Insurance; Test, Trace, Protect: employer guidance; Best Practice Guidance on working safely

Self-Employment Support Scheme extended and furlough next steps confirmed
The UK Government have announced updates on the Self-Employment Support Scheme and the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.  Visit the Business Wales website for more details.

Economic Resilience Fund
The Welsh Government’s £500m Economic Resilience Fund (ERF) was established to plug the gaps in the support schemes already announced by the UK Government, including the Job Retention Scheme and the Self-Employed Income Support Scheme, which will guarantee 80% of people’s wages and income.

In its first week the £300m Economic Resilience Fund received almost 9,000 applications. As a result the Fund was paused to provide the Welsh Government with an opportunity to consider what further support businesses, charities and social enterprises need but the next phase will go live shortly.

The next £100m phase of the ERF has recently been announced with the eligibility criteria going live mid-June allowing businesses time to prepare before the fund opens to applications at the end of June. It’s important to note that Phase 2 will only commence when we have closed down the first phase which is why at this stage we can’t give a specific date.

In terms of eligibility, Phase 2 of the Fund will operate in the same way as Phase 1 but with an update to the micro scheme, which will enable limited companies who are not VAT registered to access the Fund, subject to meeting the wider eligibility criteria. Visit Business Wales for the latest information.

COVID-19 Consumer Sentiment Tracker
Visit Wales is collaborating with Visit Scotland and Visit England on this new consumer behaviour tracker.  It concentrates on Great Britain (GB) residents to assess their domestic holiday intentions for the remainder of 2020 and early 2021 and is being conducted weekly for three months. Results of the first wave of activity are available and covers:

Mood of the nation – a measure
Consumer confidence regarding taking a domestic short break/holiday and likelihood of when they will plan, book and take any break
Where in the UK that break may be, what type of accommodation they will use and how they plan to travel to the destination
What types of activity are they more or less likely to undertake at their destination of choice
More detailed analysis for Wales will be available on a monthly basis.

Business Interruption Insurance
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has issued an update on its legal action regarding business interruption insurance. Read the FCA press release here.

Test, Trace, Protect: guidance for employers
Test, Trace, Protect is the Welsh Government’s approach to testing and contact tracing which will help citizens of Wales to resume their normal lives gradually and safely.  Visit Business Wales  for more information.

Best Practice Guidance on working safely
We are consulting, via the Regional Tourism Fora, on best practice guidance for working safely in the visitor economy/tourism sector in Wales in preparation for any lifting of restrictions.  Any such lifting of restrictions will only happen in Wales when it is safe to do so and in line with the principles outlined in the Welsh Government roadmap to recovery Unlocking our society and economy: continuing the conversation.

In the meantime, a range of practical support and guidance for employers across various business areas is available on Business Wales – Keep Wales Safe at Work: Restarting and re-opening business.

Business Wales is providing businesses with tailored support and advice about dealing with coronavirus, from financial and supply chain planning to advice on staffing issues. We would advise Tourism businesses and stakeholders in Wales wanting specific guidance to visit the Business Wales website or call Business Wales helpline on 03000 6 03000, and to regularly visit the Public Health Wales website for up-to-date public health information for you, your staff and your visitors.
