An Exciting New Year in Bridgend County!
by bridgendtourism

Hello and welcome to the very first blog of 2015!

Here’s hoping you had a Christmas and New Year break filled with turkey, treats and tempting tipples. And while the past two weeks may well have been all about box sets and dietary excess, January is the time to look to the year ahead and discover all the amazing activities and events available in the coming months. Here are a few ideas on how to enjoy 2015 in Bridgend County…

Brass Bands 2012 Brass Band Championship (21st February)
Things will get brassy in February as Porthcawl’s Grand Pavilion plays host to some of the top brass bands on the planet (just look at the ‘4barsrest’ rankings). These bands will then go head-to-head, each playing their own twenty minute entertainment mini-concert programme to find out who will be crowned the champions.

Cwlwm Celtaidd (27th February – 1st March)
A family festival that brings together the traditional music, song and dance of the Celtic countries: Ireland, Scotland, the Isle of Man, Cornwall, Brittany and, of course, Wales. Expect a packed programme of concerts, dances, workshops, street dance displays in the Town Centre and Esplanade, as well as a few legendary sessions in the bar and Beach Ceilidh on Sunday!

Jazz on the Sands (17th – 19th April)
Once again, renowned musicians from miles around will descend on the sands of Porthcawl (as well as numerous other venues) for three days of the jazziest musical mayhem you can imagine. Musicians and bands that will be performing include The Temperance Seven, the Simon Spillett Quartet, the Rhondda Symphony Pops Orchestra, Afternoon in Paris and the Sarah Smith Trio.

The Ty Hafan Rainbow Run (18th April)
Based on the Indian Holi festival of colour, this is your very unique opportunity to get a little fitter, run a little faster and feel a whole lot better about yourself by helping a fantastic cause. Be sure to wear some old clothing; as you run (or walk) your way along the 5k beach route you’ll be showered with various shades of powdered paint! Ty Hafan is one of the UK’s leading paediatric palliative care charities.

Welsh Rockabilly and Burlesque fringe festival (18th – 20th September)
Looking all the way forward to September, you can’t not get excited by the sound of the Welsh Rockabilly and Burlesque fringe festival! Expect outdoor music stages, collections of classic cars and bikes, a rare vinyl hideaway store, stroller and jive workshops, not to mention the single largest traditional fairground in Wales! Quite simply one not to be missed!
