The training has all been completed, fundraising targets smashed, and PBs are now ready and waiting to be broken. The only question now is whether YOU are ready?

Our final newsletter details useful race day information as well as some helpful hints and reminders of what’s on offer over the Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon race weekend.

Race Day Information

All race day information, including start times, baggage and getting to the start can be found HERE, or in your race programme which was sent along with your race number and chip.

Please pay attention to this information and read thoroughly to avoid any confusion on the day.

Our General Information and Race Enquiries stalls in the Runners’ Village will be in operation from 7am on Sunday to help answer any queries you might have, but please be as prepared as possible before arrival.

We will also have a host of maps and signage to help direct you to the start line on the day, and if in doubt, feel free to ask one of our many volunteers who will be on hand during the day to answer any of your questions.

On race day, road closures will be in action from as early as 6am on North Road and 4.30am on Castle Street. The main road closures will be in force from 8am.

A PARK AND WALK service will be in place at Cardiff City Football Stadium from 6.30am. The cost of parking will be £2 with all profits going to our charity partner Barnardo’s. Please allow enough time to make the 1 mile journey to the race start.

There are thousands of parking spaces in Cardiff City Centre, but parking spaces in Cardiff Bay are extremely limited.

Please note that the road network gets incredibly busy so please plan your journey carefully and allow plenty of time to get to the start.

For detailed information on where to park on race day, please refer to the following websites:

www.en.parkopedia.co.uk/parking/cardiff or www.cardiff.gov.uk

At the moment (touch wood) the weather is looking ok for Sunday morning, but please check the weather before travelling. We have a dedicated Met Office web page for you to check the weather on a daily/hourly basis on our website.

Advice On The Use Of Energy Drinks And Gels

As well as the provision of Brecon Carreg water at various points through the race, there will also be Lucozade energy drinks available between miles 8 and 9, and Maxifuel gels at mile six in Roald Dahl Plass.

If you have not used these products before in training, we would advise that you try the product prior to the event to ensure that your body does not disagree with the product.

For anyone looking to consume the Maxifuel gels, it is recommended that the product is taken with water.

As long as you have been drinking liquids throughout the race, a couple of mouthfuls of water before or after the gel should be enough.

There is no need to take water at the exact time of the Maxifuel gel.

Drink sensible amounts of water throughout the race to maintain hydration levels, and do not overload on drink or energy gels to avoid any complications.

Don’t drink too much water whilst waiting in the pens for the race to start, and do not overload on fluid prior to the race.

You should not take part in the race if you are unwell, or have had a fever, sickness or diarrhoea in the 3 days before the race

Arrive early with plenty of time to park and make your way to the start.
Please be aware of any wheelchair racers taking part in the race. Be considerate and leave plenty of space for them to take part in the race.

Emergency vehicles will always take precedent over the race, so if there is an accident and vehicles need access across the route, please be aware that this may impact on your race

Next Step…
Festival of Running, Saturday 5th October
It’s not too late to get involved in the inaugural Lloyds Bank Cardiff Half Marathon Festival of Running on Saturday 5th October.

With a host of mile road races, athletic activities for kids, an entertaining mascot race, and the all important Lloyds Bank Family Fun Run (which you can sign up for on the day or in advance on our website), there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained.

Events take place from 12 noon until 4pm in Cardiff’s Civic Centre, and whether you’re spectating or taking part, there will be live music, face painting, Cardiff Blues and a range of other exhibitors taking part on the day to create the perfect warm up to the big day on Sunday.

Live @ Cardiff Half
Throughout the course, this year we’ve prepared some extra entertainment points to help spur you on to the finish line. Whether it is brass bands in the bay, indie bands at the Norwegian Church, or choirs at the barrage, we’ll do everything possible to enhance your experience.

Throughout the day we will also host a rage of fantastic live performances on our main stage in the Runners’ Village.

If you run fast enough you’ll be able to catch the likes of Sera, Cardiff Arms Park Male Voice Choir and Kookamunga.

Please do stay and enjoy the entertainment on offer throughout the day.
