Plus-Size Model Launches Petition Calling For Women To Boycott Victoria’s Secret

Plus-size model Robyn Lawley is on a mission to change how one of the “world’s most prominent catwalks” runs its show.

The Australian model has started a petition calling for people to boycott Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show after it once again failed to cast a plus-size model this year.

Lawley told The Daily Telegraph that she “felt like shit” after watching the show annually and questioned the inclusivity and diversity of the brand. The brand’s idea of “perfection” is also not a true reflection of a typical woman’s body.

Her daughter Ripley, who has inherited her body shape, has inspired her to speak out about this issue. Lawley said she hopes to see girls with natural cellulite walking down the runway so that girls who watch the show will be able to relate and not feel pressurized to live up to unhealthy body ideals.

“Until Victoria’s Secret commits to representing ALL women on stage, I am calling for a complete boycott of this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show,” she wrote on Instagram, accompanied with a link to the change.org petition. “It’s time Victoria’s Secret recognized the buying power and influence of women of ALL ages, shapes, sizes, and ethnicities.”

She explained that she doesn’t want her daughter to feel affected by having a different body shape compared to those of Victoria Secret models, which she admits had plagued her while she was growing up.

Lawley is also partnering with lingerie company ThirdLove to launch a campaign, which encourages women to post an unedited image of themselves on social media with the hashtag #myangelwings to spread awareness.

For each image shared, ThirdLove will donate one bra to national non-profit I Support the Girls, which will distribute them to homeless women and girls.

ThirdLove’s chief creative officer Ra’el Cohen hopes this movement will encourage women to support companies that showcase more realism in their branding where woman are not stereotyped according to shape, size, ethnicity or age.

Victoria Secret have dominated the space for almost 30 years by telling women there is only one kind of body beautiful. – you can read more in the link of my bio why it’s so important to encourage diversity for our future daughters sake. Until Victoria’s Secret commits to representing ALL women on stage, I am calling for a complete boycott of this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. It’s time Victoria’s Secret recognized the buying power and influence of women of ALL ages, shapes, sizes, and ethnicities. The female gaze is powerful, and together, we can celebrate the beauty of our diversity. It’s about time Victoria’s Secret celebrated the customers that fuel its bottom line. Will you join me? 1 Sign the petition! 2 Encourage your friends not to tune in or attend the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show share a photo of yourself on Instagram, as you are (not airbrushed and beautiful), use the hashtag #myangelwings to share what makes you uniquely beautiful, please tag me so I can see (@robynlawley) and @ThirdLove For every person who shares a post with #myangelwings hashtag, ThirdLove will donate one bra to @isupportthegirls (a national non-profit that collects and distributes bras to homeless women and girls around the country !!!)

Branding & Design Firm Lippincott Celebrates 75 Years Of Its Most Iconic Designs

Since its founding in 1945, New York-based brand strategy and design company Lippincott has produced some of the world’s most recognized logo designs. This includes the Coca-Cola ribbon, the Duracell copper top, and the Betty Crocker spoon.

Earlier this month, the design firm unveiled its rebrand for innovation company DuPont, where the latter’s two-word name was united as one in its first rebrand after a century.

In honor of Lippincott’s 75th anniversary, the creative agency has taken a trip down memory lane with designers behind some of the company’s most emblematic creations.

“When Gordon Lippincott, an engineer by training, joined forces in 1943 with Walter Margulies, an architect, the now famous duo was hoping to make their mark through experience and product design,” explains Lippincott inside a press release. “By combining their product design roots with storytelling, they helped create the branding industry as we know it today.”

“Like the CITGO trimark still standing in Fenway Park, or Andy Warhol’s 1962 tribute to Campbell’s soup on display at the MoMA, our work has sustained decades of change, seamlessly integrating with the cultural landscape it has been shaped by and has in turn shaped.”

As founder J. Gordon Lippincott once said, “Design can’t stand still.” See a selection of its most iconic creations through the years below.

Richard Felton, Lippincott Design Co-Op, 1967-1969

John Young, Lippincott Creative Director, 1958-1960 & 1965-1970

Arthur King, Lippincott Creative Director, 1963-1971

Connie Birdsall, Global Creative Director, 1988-2018+
